Evansville Otters News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN â Evansville Otters starter Grant Williams struck out a career high 14 as the Otters beat the Kalamazoo Kings 4-0.
The Otters got the scoring started in the second innings as they plated one run, followed by two more in the third on a double by Carlos Brackley. Brackley was the offensive hero for Evansville as he knocked three hits, scored, and drove in a run.
The Otters tacked on an extra run in the fifth, but it could have been a lot more, had it not been for a nice line drive double play turned by Kings' shortstop, Jason Startari.
Denver Stuckey and Terrence McClain each had hits in the game, extending their season opening hitting streaks to five games each.
Williams went the first six, striking out all but two of his 14 batters swinging. His 14 punchouts were one short of the Otters record of 15, set by George Sherrill.
The series continues on Saturday with Heath Heiberger making his Otters debut against the Kings' Ryan Jamison. Sunday is Armed Forces Day with fireworks sponsored by Ameriqual after the game.
