Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, came from behind to beat the Kalamazoo Kings 12-11 Tuesday at Falconi Field.
Jason Kane hit a 3-run home run in the eighth inning off of reliever Jared Powell to decide the game. The Wild Things clawed their way back into the game after giving up
seven runs in the first inning. Starting pitcher Ben Ally gave up ten runs in seven innings-but only three of the runs were earned. After being behind 10-2 in the fourth inning, the Wild Things cut the lead to 10-5. The three run rally was aided by three Kalamazoo errors.
Anthony Kozol earned the win for the Wild Things. Kozol entered the game during a bases loaded jam-but Kalamazoo only scored one run. The Wild Things countered by
scoring four runs in the eighth to cut the deficit to 11-9. After Jon Cahill and Joel Buchenauer drew walks in the eighth inning, Kane hit the first pitch from reliever Jared Powell over the right field wall to give the Wild Things a 12-11 lead. The Kings rally was thwarted in the ninth as Kozol induced Darryl Blaze to hit into a double play to end the game.
In related news, the Wild Things signed outfielder Orlando Cruz, who had been with the Texas Rangers organization for five years. The 21-year-old had been drafted in 1999 in the 17th round.
The Wild Things will conclude this three game series with Kalamazoo at Falconi Field Wednesday night. Baseball legend John Smiley will be on hand prior to the game to greet Wild Things Fans. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
