Wild Things Snap Losing Streak with Victory Over Otters

EVANSVILLE, IN. - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, snapped their four-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over the Evansville Otters in game one of a three game series in Evansville.

Two Luis Rivera RBI singles, in the top of the first and third innings gave the Wild Things the lead until the bottom of the seventh inning during Tuesday night's match-up at Bosse Field, home of the Evansville Otters.

Washington added to their lead in the sixth inning with a solo homerun by first baseman Doug Thennis.

The Wild Things took that lead into the seventh inning, but Evansville was able to come up with four runs and capture the lead.

Washington fought back in the eighth when Estee Harris doubled to plate Rivera. Thennis then drove in Harris, giving Washington the 5-4 lead.

Steve Grife earned the victory for Washington, allowing three runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning of work. Starter, Justin Edwards gave up no runs, allowed three hits with four walks, and struck out six.

The Wild Things face the Otters again on Wednesday and Thursday at 7:35 p.m. when Gary Lee will take the hill for Washington. Air time on WJPA 95.3 FM is 7:25 p.m. The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park on Friday August 12, for a six-game homestand.
