Wild Things send Otters to fifth straight loss
July 20, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
J. D. Cockroft pitched 8.1 innings allowing eight hits and two unearned runs as the Evansville Otters dropped their fifth straight game, losing to the Washington Wild Things 4-2.
The Wild Things got to Otters starter Cody Blackard (3-1) in the third inning for two runs and another in the third. Washington got their final run in the seventh, an unearned tally off Blackard.
The Otters were able to get hits off Cockroft (1-3), but were unable to move a runner past second base until the ninth inning when Rickey Clinton doubled behind a Cole Hilt single. With two outs, pinch-hitter Matt Zeller grounded a ball to shortstop, which looked like it would end the game. However, Robert Morgan's throw to first base got by T. J. Graves, scoring Hilt and Clinton. Unfortunately, the Otters were unable to bring home the tying runs in falling 4-2.
Brian Kroll (2-4) will start for Evansville tomorrow as they take on the Chillicothe Paints. It is the Evansville Otters and Millennium Steel's salute to the Negro Leagues. The Otters and Paints will each wear replica Negro League uniforms with Negro League players Sam Hartsfeld and Webster Chambers, as well as Henry Jackson throwing out the first pitches. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
