July 4, 2014 - Frontier League (FL)
Washington Wild Things News Release
Florence, KY- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, drop game one of a three game series against the Florence Freedom with a final score of 5-3 on the fourth of July. Wild Things pitcher Alex Kaminski had a strong showing but picked up his third loss of the season and Freedom pitcher Michael O'Neal picked the win in his professional debut.
The Florence Freedom tacked on three runs in the bottom of the second to put them on the board first. The Freedom scored their runs off five consecutive singles from: Michael Wilson, Ryan Solberg, Cole Miles, Zak Blair and Sam Eberly. Wilson, Solberg and Miles would all come around to score.
Wild Things designated hitter Maxx Garrett answered Florence's runs with a two run home run in the top of the fourth to bring around third baseman Carter Bell. Garrett picked up his third home run of the year along with RBI's eight and nine to cut the score to 3-2.
Before the Wild Things could try and even up the ball game, Freedom first baseman Sam Eberly hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to increase Florence's lead to two.
In the bottom of the six, Florence was able to add to their lead off an RBI double from right fielder Ryan Solberg that would bring around Michael Wilson to push the score to 5-2.
The Wild Things had one last push in the bottom of the ninth when Scott Kalamar hit an RBI double to bring in Stewart Ijames and bring the score to 5-3. However, this would be the last run the visiting team had in them as they fell to the Florence Freedom 5-3.
Jarod Jamerson got his first start with the Wild Things at shortstop. Jamerson was formerly with the Los Angeles Dodgers in their extended spring training program. He went 1-3 with a single in the fifth and had a strong presence in the field.
The first place Wild Things will be back in action for game two which is scheduled for a 6:05 p.m. start on Saturday, July 5.
