A crowd of 7,052, which was the second best in 2014 and the tenth largest in franchise history, watched Thompson (3-0) dazzle for seven innings in his second pro start. The right-hander from Cuba, Mo. allowed just four hits with no walks and six strikeouts to move his ERA to 0.92.

With help from the Rascals (26-17) defense, Gateway added two insurance runs in the eighth inning on a Niko Vasquez triple and three River City errors.

River City added a run in the ninth before Richard Barrett finished off the Grizzlies 10th win in their last 12 games.

The Grizzlies finish their homestand Saturday night against the Rascals at GCS Ballpark. Left-hander Kerry Kelley (2-0) will make the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 with postgame fireworks.
