Wild Things Earn Fifth Straight Win in Series Opener

WASHINGTON, PA - The Wild Things took the first game of the series tonight against the Tri-City ValleyCats winning by a score of 9-2 behind several strong offensive outputs and solid pitching throughout the game.

The Wild Things got off to a good start early by scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, Bralin Jackson doubled to center scoring Scotty Dubrule and giving the Wild Things a 1-0 lead. Dubrule had singled in his at bat to extend his hit streak to 11 games to start his career.

The Wild Things plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning as well. Andrew Czech hit a sacrifice fly scoring Hector Roa. Cam Phelts was walked with the bases loaded bringing in Joe Campagna to put the Wild Things up 3-0.

Things got a little heated for the second night in a row in the bottom of the fourth. The benches cleared for a moment after Phelts bunted through a pitch that ended up hitting him.

After that, Washington added on. Bralin Jackson once again came up big by hitting a sacrifice fly to center brining in Nick Ward who started the inning off with a walk. Grant Heyman would come up to the plate next and double to right bringing home Phelts. Hector Roa also brought in a batter courtesy of a single.

The Wild Things would add another run this time in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cam Phelts singles in Nick Ward extending the Wild Things' lead to 7-0.

The ValleyCats got on the board for the first time in the top of the seventh inning. Nelson Molina hit a ball for a home run over the fence in right bringing in Juan Silverio making the score 7-2 Wild Things.

Ryan Hennen got the win tonight pitching 6.1 innings of two-run ball. His record for the season is now 7-2.

Hector Roa was 4-for-4 while Nick Ward scored three times after drawing three more walks. He leads the league in the category. Jackson drove in three to get him to 40 RBI on the season.

Washington will return to action tomorrow night where they will be playing the second game in the series against the Tri-City ValleyCats.
