Washington Wild Things News Release

The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, lost a close game 3-2 to the visiting Kalamazoo Kings, dropping their record to 11-8. The Wild Things lost the first game in a three-game series Tuesday night at Falconi Field in front of 2,877 fans.

The Wild Things jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Mike Arbinger doubled, driving in left-fielder Chris Carter. The Wild Things remained on top until the fifth inning when the Kings evened the score at 1-1. Wild Things starting pitcher, Brian Burks, went six and 2/3 innings, surrendering only two runs.

The seventh inning proved eventful with the Kings scoring one run to take the lead. However, the Wild Things fought back in the bottom of the inning. Bruce Baldwin scored on a hit and run when Ryan McGraw singled, again evening the score.

Kalamazoo came on strong in the end and eventually proved too much for the Wild Things. The Kings scored in the top of the eighth and never surrendered their lead, and in the end came away with a 3-2 victory over the Wild Things.

Game two of this three-game series between the Wild Things and the Kings will be contested Wednesday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Dad's will be honored at the game...the first 1000 adult men will receive a cap, courtesy of Rolling Rock, and it's Silver Slugger night, when folks over the age of 50 get to "run or mall walk" the bases after the game.
