Roosters Rally for Win

June 14, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Richmond Roosters News Release

Florence, Kentucky – Richmond avoided the sweep on Monday night winning 6-4 by scoring all their runs in the last two innings. Hector Urena proved to be clutch by getting key hits in the eighth and ninth innings to drive in four runs including a two-run homer. Joel Posey made an excellent start for Florence. He threw eight innings, struck out eleven, and gave up only two runs, but lost the opportunity for a win when Lenny Bays blew the save in the ninth. Tony Casoli suffered from the long ball in his fourth start of the year. He gave up a total of the four home runs to Florence but still pitched well enough in the late innings to get the win.

Mike Galloway hit his league leading eighth home run in the third inning. It was a solo shot to right field just over the outstretched glove of Kevin White to give Florence a 1-0 lead. The Freedom continued to hit the long ball in the fifth by getting back-to-back-to-back blasts. Trevor Hall, Scott Martin, and Kyle Geswein each hit a homer in consecutive at-bats to give Florence a 4-0 lead. The Roosters didn't get on the board until the top of the eighth. Hector Urena hit a ball deep to left field that hooked around the foul pole just over the wall to score Ty Herriott and cut Florence's lead to 4-2.

Richmond continued to rally in the ninth. Kevin White led off with a towering shot to center field and cruised into third when Scott Martin lost the ball in the lights. Josh Hollingsworth then hit his sixth homer of the year to left field that tied the game at 4-4. The team kept it going as Tony Sanguinetti singled to right-center, Alex Rybczak singled to center, and Nate Gravley walked to load the bases with two out. Urena then came to the plate and quickly singled to right field to score two and give the Roosters six straight runs and a 6-4 lead.

Dan Caldwell took the mound in the ninth for Richmond to get his third save of the year. He safely retired all three players he faced and secured the win for Casoli.

The Roosters (7-11) have finally completed their 15-game, 17-day road trip. The Roosters will begin a three-game series against Rockford (10-8) on Tuesday. The game will begin at 6:35pm (Indiana time). Curt Moenter (1-0, 0.47) will oppose John Richards (0-0, 0.00).
