ROOSTERS ON THE ROAD
With the completion of the three game series in Florence on Monday, June 13, 2005 the Roosters have finished the longest road trip in franchise history. They have played 15 games in 17 days and have visited every team in the Eastern Division of the Frontier League. The road trip started poorly for the team. They won one out of three at Washington, Ohio Valley, and Chillicothe to start the trip but managed to win three in row, one in Chillicothe and two in Evansville, to get their first win streak of the year. As of Sunday, the Roosters are 6-11. While the record is not what some would like, the players can look forward to playing a lot of games at home in the couple of months.
Here are the game times and pitchers for this home series series:
Tuesday 6:35pm - Curt Moenter (1-0, 0.47 ERA) vs. John Richards (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Wednesday 6:35pm - Derek Bennett (0-1, 7.62 ERA) vs. Justin Olson (1-1, 4.50 ERA)
Thursday 6:35pm - Matt Schweitzer (1-1, 1.82 ERA) vs. Derek Roper (3-0, 3.27 ERA)
Q&A with Mike Reese
Returning 2004 Frontier League All-Star Mike Reese is the starting centerfielder for the Richmond Roosters. He is one of the top hitters in the league with an average over .380 and an on-base percentage over .500. He will be a featured player on the Meineke Car Care Baseball Card Strip on Wednesday, June 15.
Q: I know the team's record isn't the best right now, but you've got to be happy with your performance so far this season, being one of the top hitters in the league.
A: There can be a lot of pressure to perform. You're expected to get a hit every time you go up there. I tell myself just to take it one at-bat at a time.
Q: This has been the longest road trip in Roosters franchise history. Are you happy to be going home for a few days?
A: Its been tough but the days off in between have made it easier. It will definitely be nice to sleep in my own bed for a change.
Q: How does it feel to have your own baseball card?
A: Its a good feeling. This is the first time since little league that I've had my own card. Its very neat.
Q: How much do you think your baseball card would be worth on EBay?
A: Probably $2.50, maybe $5.00 with shipping. That's how much my cards cost in Little League, so yeah, $5.00 unless shipping and handling is free.
Q: I understand you are a coach at your Alma mater, Rollins College. Is that something you enjoy doing?
A: I'd rather be playing but coaching is definitely something I enjoy. It helps me relate to the players and I get a lot more experience. I'm in a position that others look up to me and I can help them.
Q: How do you feel about Rollins College being named one of the top party schools in the nation in 2002?
A: A lot of times it means there is trouble with alcohol or drugs and not such a good thing. I rather it be known as an academic school.
Q: You were a Frontier League All-Star last year. How was that experience?
A: It was a great experience for me. As a rookie, I got the chance to hang out with older players and learn from them. Not just about baseball, but how to take care of myself and how the teams in the league work.
Q: You share the outfield with fellow All-Star Kevin White. How is your relationship with him and do you guys work together and help each other get better?
A: Kevin and I have a great relationship. We have a lot of communication, we are roommates, and we work together a lot.
TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT McBRIDE STADIUM OR AT SIDE 1 MUSIC, OR BY PHONE AT 765-935-7529.
