The Washington Wild Things (7-10), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, found their bats and topped the Frontier League Defending Champion Kalamazoo Kings 13-3 in the second of a three game set at Homer Striker Field in Kalamazoo Sunday.

The Wild Things scored in the first, but Kalamazoo answered. Then in the third, the Kings took the lead, but the Wild Things struck back in the fourth inning and never looked back, rebounding from their 11-5 loss to the Kings the night before.

Matt Squires (1-0) got the win for Washington, working 5.2 innings, allowing seven hits, three (earned) runs, walking one and striking out four. Stephen Spragg pitched 3.1 innings of relief, allowing three hits, no runs, and striking out two.

The Wild Things chalked up 15 hits during the match-up; Brandon Ketron hit a two run homer, and Chris Sidick hit a solo home run. Pat Peavy is credited with four RBI. The Wild Things chalked up a number of triples including those by Kyle Werman, Brett Grandstrand, Lance Koenig and Chris Sidick.

The Wild Things and the Kings will meet for the final game of the three game series Monday when first pitch is scheduled for 10:05 a.m. The game will be broadcast on WJPA AM 1450; air time is 9:55 a.m. Washington returns to Falconi Field to host the Florence Freedom Tuesday when the first in a set of fifth anniversary figurines will be distributed to the first 1000 fans to the ballpark. The first figurine in the series is Mike Arbinger. Tickets are available.
