Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
Tanner Watson threw six scoreless innings in his first start of the season and the Rockford RiverHawks scored four runs in the eighth inning to put the game away as they beat the Traverse City Beach Bums 8-0.
The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the third when the RiverHawks got on the board with an RBI single by Joe Anthonsen to go up 1-0. Rockford capitalized on some Beach Bums wildness in the fifth as they loaded the bases with the aid of two walks. With a run in and the bases loaded, Nick Johnson delivered a single to make it 4-0.
The Beach Bums had a chance in the seventh. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases with two outs, but Doug Garcia grounded into an inning ending fielder's choice. Rockford then put the game away with four runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Shaun Parker (1-3) took the loss for the Beach Bums. He pitched better than his final line indicated as through the first four innings he allowed just two baserunners and one run. Watson (1-0) pitched six innings allowing three hits for the RiverHawks. Adam Kroft and Mike Marksbury finished off the final three innings for the shutout.
One bright spot for the Beach Bums was Nick Batkoski who with his first inning single, extended his hitting streak to seven games. During the streak, Batkoski has gone 12-for-29 with three doubles and 12 RBI.
The two teams will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow night as Steve Shippey (2-1, 2.57) will get the start for Traverse City with Garrett Bauer (2-0, 2.79) will go for Rockford. Game time is set for 8:05 EST and can be heard on 94.3 The Fox FM.
