Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
SHOUT ABOUT IT...
Welcome to this issue of Sand Box News and thank you for your interest in the Traverse City Beach Bums! We are delighted to be able to share the excitement of our Inaugural Season with you. The team is doing great with a current record of 10-6, which placed them two games back from the division leader Chillicothe Paints, and a game ahead of the Kalamazoo Kings. Our fan attendance (3,953/game average) in six games places us second in the league with only the league leading Gateway Grizzlies (4,304/average after Saturday night) ahead of us. Kudos to shortstop Justin Holmes who is currently second in the league with a batting average of .396 and right-hand pitcher Hunter Davis who is in the top six pitchers in the league with an ERA of 1.42 .
ON THE ROAD AGAIN...
The Beach Bums made their first visit of the season to Crestwood, Illinois, to take on the Windy City ThunderBolts (June 7-8-9) and in the process recorded the first sweep (winning all three games in the series) in team history. After the game on Friday night, the team climbed aboard their Great Northwest bus and headed to Loves Park, Illinois and the Riverhawks Stadium, home of the Rockford Riverhawks. Robbie McClellan took the mound Saturday night after a 45 minutes rain delay and got the win, 6-3, with the strong backing of his teammates. Nick Batkoski, the 2005 Frontier League Rookie of the Year, led the offense going 3-5 with 5 RBI. The Beach Bums play both Sunday and Monday night before returning home in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

WE GOT AUTOGRAPHS!
Fans have been coming early to take advantage of the extra time before the game to watch the players warm up and get autographs. Players are available for a quick chat and to sign autographs, before and after the game -- but not during the game, this is a Frontier League rule. Sunday night, June 4 was Beach Bums Autograph Book night where the first 1,000 fans in the gate received an autograph book. After the game the Beach Bum players signed autographs.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE SHAPING UP! The Beach Bums won their second home series in a row, taking two-of-three from the always-strong Gateway Grizzlies. The Beach Bums escaped a late rally for a 6-5 win on Saturday night, June 3. David LeMieux, pitching in front of a crowd of his Central Elementary School students, led the way in a 6-4 win on Sunday night.
Joseph Rybka throws the ceremonial first pitch to #8 Robbie McClellan "Children are our greatest resource!" says John E. Wuerfel, Beach Bums Managing Member. The Beach Bums have won four of their six games at Wuerfel Park, taking two-of-three from 2005 league champion Kalamazoo to open the season before last weekend's series win over the Grizzlies.
