Paints come back to take game two

The Chillicothe Paints (13-4) came back from a 5-2 deficit to beat the Gateway Grizzlies (9-8) 6-5 Sunday night in front of 3,472 fans at GCS Ballpark.

Chillicothe took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. The Grizzlies answered with runs in each of the first three innings to go up.

Mike Breyman picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the first. Greg Isaacson and Freddy Lopez each had run scoring hits in the second. Brooks Colvin drove in a run in the third with a sac fly to make it 5-2.

The Paints took the lead for good with a four-run fifth inning. Travis Garcia hit a three-run shot off of Grizzlies starter E.J. Basta to tie the game. Jeff Parish followed with a solo shot to make it 6-5.

Basta (1-1) gave up all six runs, four earned, on five hits over four-plus innings.

Isaacson and Lopez were both 2-5 with the RBI. Colvin was 1-3. Taylor Johnson and Bobby Gilliam each had two hits for the Grizzlies.

Chris Little followe Basta to the mound. Little tossed five scoreless innings of relief. He allowed just two hits and struck out six.

The Grizzlies and Paints will meet for the rubber match Monday night at GCS Ballpark. The Grizzlies will send Nathan Roush to the mound. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
