
Wichita Thunder Enjoys Biggest Opening Weekend

WICHITA, KS - After weeks of excitement leading up to the kickoff of the Thunder's 20th season, the Wichita Thunder experienced the largest opening weekend in their history.
Over 17,500 fans cheering for the Thunder made for the largest opening weekend in Thunder's history, topping its previous record of 16,513 during its 2006-2007 season. Ticket sales are up 57% from last season.
Not only Wichita is taking notice of a burgeoning Thunder season. On the Central Hockey League's website, a fan poll ranks the Wichita Thunder as the most impressive team of the season thus far.
Plus, the CHL honored Thunder player Brett Hemingway as its first player of the week. The excitement around the Thunder's record-breaking success is not just a win for new owners Johnny, Brandon and Rodney Steven, but for the fans of Wichita.
"The Thunder is Wichita's own professional sports team," says co-owner Rodney Steven. "It's a team the town can rally behind and support, a team our community can be proud of."
The excitement generated by opening weekend is expected to carry on throughout the season with Thunder giveaways, special games and more.
