Kansas City Monarchs News Release

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Wichita Wingnuts clinched a series victory with a five-run fifth inning that propelled them to an 8-3 win over the Kansas City T-Bones in front of 7,304 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Kansas City opened the scoring in the first with a double from Kyle Nichols that drove in leadoff hitter Kennard Jones. Nichols, who joined the squad on July 4, has collected nine RBIs in nine games with the T-Bones while hitting .364.

The T-Bones' lead lasted until the fourth inning, when two runs by CJ Ziegler and Brent Clevlen gave Wichita a 2-1 advantage. An inning later the Wingnuts exploded for five runs, with Clevlen and Cole Armstrong each notching a pair of RBIs and league-batting leader Abel Nieves adding one.

Aaron Meade (3-5) made his first start for Kansas City since June 29 after a two-week stint on the disabled list. He allowed only two hits but surrendered six walks and five runs in 4 1/3 innings. Ethan Cole and Josh Hildebrand retired 13 consecutive batters from the fifth to the ninth innings, but the damage was done.

Felix Molina collected two extra-base hits - a double (5) and a triple (3) - in the second and ninth innings, respectively.

The T-Bones close the four game home-and-home series with Wichita at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 7:05 Saturday night. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
