Wingnuts Sweep, Winning Streak Hits Nine

KANSAS CITY, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (37-18) beat the Kansas City T-Bones (19-36) 4-2 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Saturday night.

The Wingnuts have won nine games in a row, tying the second-longest winning streak in frahcise history.

For a second time in three nights, the Wingnuts held the T-Bones to two base hits. Junior Guerra earned the win, allowing two unearned runs over seven innings. Guerra gave up two hits, walked three, and tied a career-high with nine strikeouts.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the sixth, Jake Kahaulelio lined a single to center field. Kahaulelio took second on a passed ball and went to third on an infield single from John Rodriguez. Two batters later, Brent Clevlen smashed a double down the left field line that deflected off the glove of T-Bones' third baseman Matt Padgett and pulled the Wingnuts within one run. With Rodriguez now on third and Clevlen on second, Abel Nieves lined a single to left-center that plated both runners and made it 3-2 Wichita.

Rodriguez doubled to left-center leading off the top of the eighth and scored on a base hit to left-center from C.J. Ziegler.

Guerra retired the final seven batters he faced while Nick Walters and Daniel Bennett combined on a scoreless eighth.

Josh Dew recorded a scoreless bottom of the ninth to earn his 12th save. Dew has earned the save in each of Wichita's last three games.

Kansas City jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two unearned runs with two outs on a wild pitch that resulted in a throwing error.

Dustin Loggins took the loss for Kansas City, allowing three earned runs on four hits in six innings. Loggins walked four and struck out four.

The Wingnuts stole four bases in the game, including two from Jared McDonald.

Wichita heads to Sioux City for a three-game series on Sunday. First pitch at Lewis and Clark Park is at 6:05 p.m. Anthony Capra starts against Sioux City right-hander Jason Jarvis. All the action can be heard locally on Oldies 92.7 KWME and worldwide at www.pressboxproductionsradio.com
