Wichita, KS...Wichita scored two unearned runs in the seventh inning as they defeated the Explorers 5-3 Thursday in the final game of the three-game series.
Trailing 3-0 after the three-run home run by Greg Porter in the third inning, the Explorers scored a run in the fourth on a RBI single by Brett Mieras that cut the Wichita lead to 3-1.
The Explorers tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth with RBI's by Mieras and Derek Schmerhorn. Mieras led the Explorers with three hits and two RBI's and had seven hits in ten at bats in the series.
Wichita scored the winning runs in the seventh inning when Steve Pearson led the inning with an infield hit. On the play a throwing error by losing pitcher Trevor Fox allowed Pearson to take second base. Then John Martin laid down a sacrifice bunt, but Martin was safe at first on a throwing error by Schmerhorn. A wild pitch by Fox and a RBI sacrifice fly by Nick Blasi scored the deciding runs.
The Explorers had several opportunities to score several times stranding ten runners including leaving the bases loaded in the first inning. The Explorers also outhit Wichita eight to four in the loss.
The X's will open their final home stand of the season Friday at Lewis and Clark Park against Grand Prairie at 7:05.
