El Paso Diablos News Release

El Paso, TX - The El Paso Diablos ended their seven game losing streak with a tough hard fought 4-3 win over the division leading Pensacola Pelicans at Jim Spooner Field on Friday night. El Paso didn't get a lot of offense but got enough, as their bull pen made it hold up to get the big win.

El Paso's offense started slowly, as they found themselves in an early 2-0 hole after the Pelicans scored single runs in the first and fourth innings. El Paso would come back in the sixth inning to take the lead. Arnoldo Ponce would plate one run on an RBI single, and Juan Camacho would tie the game on a ground out. The Diablos would not be done in the inning, as Jeff Vincent would give El Paso the lead on an RBI triple. The Pelicans came right back to tie the game in the bottom half when a bases loaded error scored a run. El Paso would win the game in the eighth inning when a two out error opened up the door for Juan Camacho to drive in the winning run.

El Paso managed only seven hits on the night, but were economical with them. Jeff Vincent led the way going 2-4 with a double and a triple, as he was the only Diablo with a multi-hit game. Juan Camacho had two RBI while his game winning hit also extended his hit streak to 14 games.

Josh Neitz held down the Pelicans line up as best he could. Neitz would pitch five innings allowing only two earned runs on 11 hits. The Bull Pen did a great job as Chris Luera was the first one out. Luera (1-0) did not allow a run when coming into a bases loaded jam with nobody out in the sixth. He pitched a scoreless seventh inning and picked up his first win of the season, before giving way to Joe Klein who shut down the Pelicans in the eighth. Mike Cervera pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his seventh save of the season.

El Paso will play game two of their series with the Pelicans on Saturday night with first pitch slated for 5:05. The Diablos will send Justin Mallett (5-4, 3.68) to the mound in a good pitching match-up with Dane DeValk (6-3, 3.68). Fans can listen along on ESPN radio 1380 or online at www.diablos.com .
