Makray, Captains blank Cats 4-0

Thad Markray threw eight shutout innings leading Shreveport-Bossier to a 4-0 win over the Cats on Friday night at LaGrave Field.

Markray notched his second win against the Cats this season, allowing no runs through eight innings. He allowed just four hits, struck out four and walked no one to improve his record to 5-9 on the season.

After the teams played scoreless baseball through the first three innings, the Captains got on the board in the fourth. With one out, Andres Rodriguez reached on an error. After Jorge Alvarez grounded into a fielder's choice, Jose Torres doubled to right-center, scoring Alvarez from first for a 1-0 Shreveport-Bossier lead. The next batter Luis Guance blooped a run-scoring single into right to make it 2-0.

The Captains added two more in the sixth as Rodriguez reached on an error for the second time in the game and then came into score on a Jorge Alvarez home run to left. It was Alvarez's first for Shreveport-Bossier and ninth overall this season.

Three times in the game, the Cats led off an inning with a double, but failed to score any of the three.

Joel Kirsten dropped to 9-5 on the season as he went six innings, allowed four runs, one earned on five hits while striking out one and walking two.

The Cats and Captains continue the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Jae Jung goes for the Cats against Captains' lefty Richard Salazar.
