SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Wichita Wingnuts beat the Sioux Falls Canaries 10-7 in 10 innings at Sioux Falls Stadium on Friday night. Greg Porter crushed a three-run double to center field with two outs in the top of the 10th to cap off a Wingnuts comeback that began in the sixth inning.
Wichita took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Nick Blasi tripled home Josh Horn and then scored himself on a wild pitch from starter Ryan Ford. The Canaries went on to score five unanswered runs against Wichita starter Gabe Medina to take a 5-2 lead.
In the sixth, Kelly Hunt, after a nine-pitch at bat, hit his 19th home run of the season, a long shot over the left field fence to make it 5-3. Michael Thompson followed with a double to right and advanced to third on a fly ball to right by Steve Pearson. Patrick Brooks manufactured Wichita's fourth run with an RBI groundout to second that scored Thompson.
Horn led off the top of the eighth with a double down the left field line and was singled home by Nick Blasi to tie the game at 5-5. Sioux Falls regained the lead when Patrick Reilly hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the inning.
However, the Wingnuts rallied again in the eighth. With two outs, Brenan Herrera drove in Patrick Brooks from first base on a hit-and-run double down the third base line and then scored to tie the game when Horn singled to right field.
