Wichita Downs the Explorers

Sioux City.....Wichita finished off the sweep of the four-game series against the Explorers with a 2-1 win Thursday at Lewis and Clark Park.

It was the fourth straight loss for the Explorers who have lost all seven games to Wichita this season and drops the X's to seven game out of first place in the American Association North.

Wichita scored what proved to be the winning run in the fifth inning when Explorers starter and losing pitcher Trevor Fox uncorked three wild pitches and Josh Horn scored to give the Wingnuts a 2-1 lead.

The Explorers had tied the game in the fourth when Landon Camp led off the inning with a walk and Lou Palmisano followed with a one-out single. Walter Young flied deep to right field to score Camp with the only run of the game for the Explorers.

Sioux City had one final opportunity in the bottom of the ninth with runners at first and second and one out, but Walter Young was called out on strikes and Derek Schmerhorn grounded into a force out at second to end the game.

The Explorers will begin a three-game series at Lincoln Friday. Game time will be 7:05pm. The X's will return home Friday, July 3rd to close out the first half with a three-game series with St. Paul.
