Wichita Thunder News Release
Allen, TX - Allen scored four unanswered goals on Wednesday night to knock off Wichita by the final of 4-1 at the Allen Event Center.
The Thunder remains in third place in the Mountain Division with 74 points, but the Americans closed the gap to one point as they move into fourth place with 73 points.
Ryan Van Stralen scored the only Thunder tally of the night.
Wichita got on the board first at 13:22 when Ryan Van Stralen came in off the rush and flicked a backhand just inside the right post to beat Jake Paterson. At 19:21, Eric Roy tied the game as his shot from the left point went from the right post, across the line and snuck inside the left bar.
The Americans took their first lead early in the second. Bryan Moore caught up to a loose puck and beat Shane Starrett with a wrist shot to make it 2-1. Three minutes later, Allen had a great opportunity to add to its lead as Etienne Boutet was called for holding and Dyson Stevenson was sent off for interference. Wichita killed off the two-man advantage and nearly tied it with several scoring chances.
In the third, Thomas Frazee made it 3-1 at 3:11 as he caught a pass across the goal-mouth and buried it. Wichita pulled Starrett during a penalty to try to get back in the game. Zach Pochiro won a battle in the neutral zone and found an empty net to make it 4-1.
Van Stralen recorded his sixth goal of the year and has 12 points (6g, 6a) in 12 games. Marc-Olivier Crevier-Morin had the only assist on his goal.
Wichita went 0-for-3 on the power play. Allen was 1-for-3 on the man advantage.
The Thunder returns home for the first time since early March to host the Tulsa Oilers on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
