Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Western Hockey League has fined the Spokane Chiefs and Everett Silvertips $2,500 each and suspended four players, two from each team, for their actions at the end of Saturday night's playoff game.
The Chiefs will be without Judd Blackwater for three games and Mitch Wahl for two.
Everett's Brandon Campos was also suspended for two games and Kyle Beach was suspended for one game.
Everett leads the best-of-seven series 2-0 with the next two games being played in the Spokane Arena on Tuesday and Wednesday. A potential game five will be played on Friday at Everett and an if-necessary game six on Sunday in Spokane.
Tickets remain for games three and four and are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535- PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
SERIES SHIFTS TO SPOKANE
After Everett did it, the Chiefs will have the same opportunity to defend their home ice in the best-of- seven first round series when it moves to Spokane for games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Silvertips won the first two games of the series, 4- 2 on Friday and 3-2 in overtime on Saturday. Despite being down 0-2, Chiefs Head Coach Bill Peters is confident with the series shifting venues, "We feel real good coming back to Spokane," he said. "I think we improved in both games, now coming back we need to focus on the things that we can be better at."
Trailing 2-1 in the third on Saturday night the Chiefs put an extra attacker on the ice and used an Adam Hobson goal with 1:08 remaining to push the game into overtime. The goal was the second goal in as many games for Hobson and put the Chiefs and Silvertips into overtime for the third time in six all-time playoff meetings.
"Anytime you're in overtime one shot can win it, but it's an investment in the series," Peters said on Monday before the team practiced in the Arena. "It has been a good, physical series to this point and I anticipate it being a long series. In the playoffs, every shift is important and mistakes are magnified. We have to do a better job at eliminating those mistakes," Peters finished.
Nineteen-year-old forward David Linsley did return to the lineup from a shoulder injury suffered earlier in the month.
A potential game five will take place on Friday night in Everett with an if-necessary game six on Sunday in the Arena.
Good seats are still available for Tuesday and Wednesday night by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
