
WhiteWings Use Big Inning to Put Colts Away

SAN ANGELO - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning en route to a 7-2 victory over the San Angelo Colts Tuesday at Foster Field.
The WhiteWings hit around in the top of the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. With one out, Welinson Baez singled and Joel Roa hit an RBI-double. Juan Cabrera struck out, but reached on a wild pitch. Javis Diaz hit an RBI-double and Griffin hit an RBI-groundout. One out later, Lunay Sanchez hit an RBI-double to cap the inning.
Yeurys Tejeda hit his third home run of the season in the top of the first to give the WhiteWings (18-25) a 1-0 lead against former-Houston Astro Ezequiel Astacio (3-4).
The Colts (22-23) responded against David Cross (2-5) in the bottom of the third. Butch Ballez hit a fly ball to left field that went in and out of Kevin Griffin's glove for a two-base error. David Cardona and Mark Ramos followed with singles to tie the game at 1-1.
Adam Hale hit his seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth to bring the Colts within 5-2.
That was it against Cross, who struck out three in six innings.
Tejeda and Sanchez led off the seventh with a single and a walk against Tristan Gaines. After a groundout advanced the runners,
Eric Gonzalez hit a two-run single to make it 7-2.
The WhiteWings and Colts play game two of this four-game series on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Misael DeJesus (1-3) is expected to face right-hander Chandler Barnard (2-1).
