Dillas Fall 7-4

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas had their chances against the Edinburg Roadrunners on Tuesday night but the Roadrunners capitalized on their chances to defeat the Dillas 7-4 in front of 2,357 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Dillas reliever Frank Corolla (0-2) got the loss as he allowed the go ahead run in the eighth inning. Roadrunners reliever Ricardo Serrano (1-1) got the win, allowing a run in two-and-a-third innings of relief. Edinburg closer Julio Castro finished off the Dillas in the ninth for his league-leading 13th save.

Amarillo got on the board first in the first as Adam De La Garza led off with a single, followed by a Joaquin Rodriguez double. An error brought home De La Garza while Rodriguez scored on an RBI groundout by Carlos Figueroa for a two-run lead.

The Roadrunners responded in the second as Ambiorix Concepcion and Robert Matlock led off with singles. Walks to Carlos Hereaud and Alexis Hernandez brought home Concepcion while Matlock scored on a Wilmer Pino RBI single to tie the game. On the single, Hereaud tried to score from second but was thrown out at the plate by De La Garza in left field to end the inning tied 2-2.

The Dillas broke the tie in the fifth inning as Stephen Douglas walked, went to second on a Rob Recuenco single and scored on a Brian Bueno RBI single for a 3-2 Amarillo lead.

Edinburg responded in the seventh as Felix Molina hit a towering solo homerun to tie the game, but the Dillas stormed right back in the bottom half. Recuenco led off with a triple and scored on a Bueno RBI sacrifice fly for a 4-3 Amarillo advantage.

The Roadrunners took their first lead in the eighth inning as Matlock singled, Hereaud walk and Hernandez singled to score Matlock. Hereaud would come home on a wild pitch to give Edinburg a lead. They added more in the ninth as Molina led off with a triple and scored on a Wilson Batista RBI single. Batista stole second, went to third on an error and scored on a Matlock RBI sacrifice fly for a 7-4 Roadrunners lead.

Castro came in for the ninth and shut down the Dillas batters to preserve the Roadrunners victory.

With the loss, the Dillas improve to 26-19 while the Roadrunners improve to 29-13. Wednesday, Amarillo will take on first-place Edinburg for the second game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
