
Roadrunners Defeat Dillas, Snap Skid

AMARILLO, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners snapped their three-game losing streak with a 7-4 win over the Amarillo Dillas Tuesday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
The Roadrunners (29-13) trailed by a run going to the seventh inning and then scored five runs in the final three innings to take the victory.
Adam De La Garza started the bottom of the first with a single and Joaquin Rodriguez followed with a double to right field where a fielding error allowed De La Garza to score from first. Carlos Figueroa then hit an RBI ground out to short that allowed Rodriguez to score making it 2-0 Amarillo.
Back-to-back singles by Ambiorix Concepcion and Robert Matlock started the top of the second for the Roadrunners. Carlos Hereaud walked to load the bases and after one out Alexis Hernandez drove in Concepcion with an RBI walk. Wilmer Pino hit a two-out RBI single to left field that allowed Matlock to score tying the game at two.
Amarillo (26-19) regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single by Brian Bueno that allowed Stephen Douglas to score making it 3-2 Dillas.
Felix Molina hit his first home run of the season in the top of the seventh against Dillas starter Ronald Lowe tying the game at three.
In the bottom of the seventh, Rob Recuenco hit a leadoff triple against Roadrunners reliever Ricardo Serrano (1-1) and then came into score on a sacrifice fly by Bueno giving the Dillas the 4-3 edge.
Matlock led off the top of the eighth with a single that knocked Lowe out of the game. Frank Corolla IV (0-2) came in and allowed a walk to Hereaud then Hernandez hit an RBI single scoring Matlock to tie the game at four. Hereaud, who moved to third on the single, came into score on a passed ball giving the Roadrunners the 5-3 lead.
Edinburg added some insurance runs in the ninth as Wilson Batista hit an RBI single scoring Molina, who led off the inning with a triple. Batista stole second base and then moved to third after the throw from the catcher went into the outfield. Matlock followed with a sacrifice fly that allowed Batista to score extending the Roadrunners advantage to 7-4.
Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth picking up his league leading 13thsave of the season and giving Edinburg the 7-4 victory.
The Roadrunners and Dillas will play the second game of their four-game series Wednesday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Mark DiBernardo (5-1) is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
