Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings scored seven runs in the first inning and cruised to a franchise-record trying sixth-straight win with a 12-7 victory over the Edinburg Roadrunners on Wednesday at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings (37-35) are winners of six 18 of their last 23 games and are now within five games of first place.

The Roadrunners (41-29) jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Luis Montano (7-4) after two-out RBI-singles by Ambiorix Concepcion and Carlos Hereaud in the top of the first.

The WhiteWings started off the bottom of the first with five-straight singles against Eric Montoya (8-4) to drive in three runs. Welinson Baez walked to load the bases. One out later, Eric Gonzlaez and Domenic Di Ricco hit back-to-back RBI-doubles to make it 7-2.

Arlon Quiroz led off the bottom of the third with a walk and stole second. Gonzalez followed with an RBI-single and stole second. Two batters later, Luany Sanchez singled off of Aaron Guerra to drive in Gonzalez, making it 9-2.

The Roadrunners got back on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. Hereaud led off with a single, Alexis Hernandez walked, a wild pitch advanced the runners and Eddie Wilson hit an RBI-single to knock out Montano. Jose Nieto came in and got Albert Gonzalez to ground into a fielder's choice. Pino was hit by a pitch, Felix Molina hit a two-run single and Nelson Teilon walked to knock out Nieto. Miguel Mtaos came in and struck out Concepcion. Wilson Batista hit a pop-up near the first base line, but it hit off of Baez's glove to score a run and bring the Roadrunners within 9-6.

With Welington Dotel at second and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Ricardo Serrano threw a wild pitch that got far enough away to allow Dotel to score to make it 10-6 WhiteWings.

The Roadrunners loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the seventh to knock out Matos, but only scored one run on a sacrifice fly by Molina against Mickey Cassidy, who struck out the other two batters he faced.

Leivi Ventura and Dotel hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it 12-7.

Cassidy pitched the final three innings for his fifth save.
