
Salvador Paniagua Hit His 19th Home Run, Broncos Walk Off

The Broncos (34-39) battled back from down 3-0 with two runs in the seventh, a run in the eighth and a two run walk off home run by Salvador Paniagua to defeat the Thunder (27-46) 5-3.
The Broncos sent RHP Jeff Jamnik (3-3) out to the mound in the series opener with the Coastal Bend Thunder. On the mound for the Thunder, LHP Doug Brandt (3-6), making his seventh start of the year.
In the top of the first Ron Fenwick reached on a walk with one out. Kevin Griffen hen reached on an error by the left fielder Mikael Loyola that put runners on first and second. Patty Matera then reached base on an infield hit and the bases were loaded for Lamar Guy. Salvador Paniagua was charged with a passed ball that allowed Fenwick to score from third base and give the Thunder the 1-0 lead.
Coastal Bend added to their lead in the top of the second when Gianican Rosa hit a solo home run, his second of the year to give the Thunder the 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth Dustin Smith led off the inning with a single. Mike Lewis dropped down a sacrifice bunt that moved Smith to second base. Smith then stole third base and came home to score on the Ron Fenwick sacrifice fly to give the Thunder a 3-0 lead.
The Broncos through five innings picked up only three hits against the lefty Doug Brandt and had stranded all five base runners allowed.
The Broncos loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh against Brandt. A pitch hit Doug Thennis and then Loyola walked. Thunder manager Al Gallagher went to his bullpen and brought in RHP Hunter Haggerty (0-0) into the game. Haggerty walked Diaz to load the bases and then got a double play ball by Charlie Pagliarulo that scored the Broncos first run of the game. Salvador Paniagua then hit an RBI single to make it a one run game. The Thunder lead was cut to 3-2 heading to the eighth.
The Broncos picked up the equalizer in the bottom of the eighth when Nick Mahin walked to start the inning. A sacrifice bunt moved him to second and with two outs Maiko Loyola brought him home with an RBI double to tie the game 3-3.
Salvador Paniagua hit his 19th home run in the bottom of the ninth with a runner at first to walk it off for the Broncos 5-3 over the Thunder.
