Four homers push Colts past Dillas 9-7

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas pitchers saw four long balls from the San Angelo Colts which scored seven of their nine runs to give the Colts a 9-7 victory over the Dillas on Wednesday night in front of 1,730 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas starter Ronald Lowe (5-4) got the loss as he gave up six runs and two homers in six innings of work, but did strike out nine in the effort. Colts starter Brian Herschel (5-7) got the win, going seven innings and allowing only four runs off 11 hits.
Amarillo got on the board first in the first inning as Adam De La Garza led off with a walk, went to second on a groundout and scored on a Julio Martinez RBI single for a one-run lead. In the second, Rob Recuenco doubled with one out and scored on a Jermel Lomack RBI for a 2-0 Dillas lead.
Jason Crosland hit a two-run homerun in the fourth to tie the game. Amarillo responded in the fourth as Lomack hit a two-out single and scored on a De La Garza RBI double. Rodriguez followed with an RBI single for a 4-2 advantage.
The Colts took their first lead in the sixth as Mark Ramos led off with a walk, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Josh Collazo RBI single. Alex Fernandez hit a two-out single to put runners on the corners while Landon Camp hit a three-run homerun to give San Angelo a 6-4 lead.
Collazo and Crosland hit back-to-back solo homeruns in the eighth, while Tyler Goodro hit an RBI single for a 9-4 Colts lead
In the ninth, Rodriguez walked and Stephen Douglas hit a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners with two outs. Alberto Cruz doubled to score both runners while Recuenco doubled to score Cruz. Down two, the Dillas couldn't bring home another run to fall by a score of 9-7 to the Colts.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 41-32 while the Colts improve to 37-36. Thursday, Amarillo will take on the Colts for the second game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
