San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, TX - The Colts got a big return to their lineup today as the team activated designated hitter Jason Landreth to the current roster.
Landreth has played in 24 games and was hitting a robust .404 with seven homers and 34 RBI, all League leads. Landreth had been battling various leg injuries at the time of his inactivation and will return to the club strictly as a designated hitter. The former Texas Tech player and Pittsburgh Pirates farmhand is in his fourth season with the Colts. He batted .303 in 80 games in 2009 with 18 homers and 69 RBI. He will rejoin the team tonight in Amarillo.
Also coming back to the club from the inactive list is reliever Tristan Gaines. Gaines, who missed the entire series at Rio Grande Valley, has gone 1-2 with a 6.29 ERA in 22 appearances this season.
To make room for Landreth and Gaines, the Colts released relievers Cody Kelley and Alex Morales. Kelley appeared in only one game for the Colts, going two innings while allowing one earned run on two hits and walking one.
Morales appeared in eight games with the Colts this season, including five as a starter. After injuring a ribcage muscle in his fifth start on July 11, which sent him to the inactive list, Morales returned to the roster and appeared in three games out of the bullpen. He pitched five scoreless innings in those outings, allowing three hits, striking out two and walking none. Morales went 0-1 with a 7.65 ERA in his time with San Angelo.
The Colts begin a four-game series tonight in Amarillo with the Amarillo Dillas. First pitch is set for 7:05 and can be heard on 1260 KKSA with the Kemps Pre-Game Show getting things underway at 6:50. Brian Henschel (4-7, 6.17 ERA) goes for the Colts against a to-be-determined pitcher for the Dillas.
The Colts return home on Sunday, August 15 with the first of a four-game series and home-stand against the Edinburg Roadrunners. First-pitch is set for 6:05. Sunday will also be Negro League Appreciation Night at Foster Field as the Colts will honor the Negro Leaguers who played in San Angelo during their careers.
