
Starling Tosses Complete Game Shutout Victory

Wardell Starling pitched a complete game shutout helping the Edinburg Roadrunners to the 3-0 victory over the Coastal Bend Thunder Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of 2,143 in attendance.
Starling (7-1) took a perfect game into the top of the eighth inning until Coastal Bend's Mike Goss singled to center field. He struck out 10 batters and did not allow a walk en route to his seventh victory of the season.
Nelson Teilon broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home off of Toro Trevino (3-8) giving the Roadrunners the 1-0 lead.
Edinburg (41-28) got back-to-back singles by Wilson Batista and Teilon to start the bottom of the eighth. Carlos Hereaud followed with a two-run triple to deep left center field allowing Batista and Teilon to score extending the Roadrunners lead 3-0.
Starling pitched a perfect ninth completing the one-hit shutout of the Thunder (27-45) giving Edinburg the 3-0 victory.
The Roadrunners travel to Harlingen Field for a five-game series with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings starting Wednesday night. Eric Montoya (8-3) is expected to face right-hander Luis Montano with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
