WhiteWings Take Game One of Doubleheader from Broncos

LAREDO - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings beat the Laredo Broncos 4-2 in seven innings in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday at Veterans Field.

The WhiteWings (24-31) are now winners of four-straight.

The WhiteWings struck against ex-teammate Juan Peralta (5-2) right away. Agustin Septimo singled and stole second two set-up a two-out RBI-double by Luany Sanchez that made it 1-0.

Nick Mahin responded with a two-run home run against Luis Montano (5-4) in the bottom of the second to give the Broncos (26-32) a 2-1 lead.

The WhiteWings tied the game in the top of the fifth. Welinson Baez led off with a double and scored on a two-out double by Javis Diaz.

With two outs in the top of the sixth, Arlon Quiroz walked and stole second. Eric Gonzlaez hit an RBI-single and moved to second on the throw. Baez followed with an RBI-single to make it 4-2.

That made a winner of Montano, who pitched five and one-third innings, striking out four while allowing seven hits and two walks.

Ruben De La Rosa recorded the final five outs for his first save.

The WhiteWings and Broncos play game two of this doubleheader in about 30 minutes. Right-hander Andres Rosales (3-3) is expected to face right-hander Santo Hernandez (5-3).
