Jones' Clutch Single Gives Dillas Win

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas continued their hot streak on Tuesday night as Daryl Jones hit a clutch two-run single in the eighth inning of a tie game to give the Dillas an 8-6 win over the San Angelo Colts in front of 1,913 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Dillas reliever Tyler Pearson (4-0) got the win, despite giving up the tying run in the eighth inning. Colts reliever Logan Williamson (0-1) gave up the go-ahead RBIs to the Dillas in the eighth inning in the effort. Amarillo closer Ramon Geronimo got his league-leading 14th save, striking out the side in the ninth.

The Colts took a lead in the first inning as Mark Ramos hit a one-out double and scored on a Ronnie Gaines RBI single. Jason Crosland followed with a two-run homerun for a three-run lead. Amarillo responded in the bottom of the first as Adam De La Garza reached on an error and scored on a Joaquin Rodriguez two-run homer. Andrew Wong hit a single and scored on another error during Stephen Douglas' at-bat to tie the game 3-3 in the first.

San Angelo retook the lead in the third as Josh Collazo doubled and scored on a Landon Camp RBI single while Gaines hit an RBI single in the fourth to score Isaac Garcia for a 5-3 Colts advantage.

Amarillo got one run back in the fourth as Rob Recuenco singled and scored on a Sam Palace RBI double for a one-run game. The Dillas continued in the sixth as Douglas walked and scored on Alberto Cruz's third homerun in three games to give Amarillo their first lead at 6-5.

San Angelo tied the game in the eighth as Landon Camp doubled and scored on a Butch Ballez double to tie the game 6-6.

The Dillas stepped in for the eighth and led off as Recuenco singled. Palace hit a sacrifice bunt to move the runner while De La Garza and Rodriguez drew walks to load the bases. Following a strikeout, Jones worked the count and singled up the middle to score Recuenco and De La Garza for the 8-6 lead.

Geronimo struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning to preserve the Dillas fifth-straight victory.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 35-23 while the Colts fall to 30-28. Wednesday, Amarillo will take on San Angelo for the third game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout. Wednesday's game will feature the Famous San Diego Chicken at the park.
