July 27, 2010 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Laredo Broncos News Release

The Broncos (26-32) lost a one run lead in the fifth and fell to the White Wings (24-31) in game one of the double header 4-2 and now hold just a half game lead over the White Wings for fourth place.

The Broncos sent RHP Juan Peralta to the mound to face off against RHP Luis Montana of the White Wings in game one of their scheduled double header at Veterans Field.

The White Wings jumped into the lead in the top of the first with a single by the newest member of Rio Grande Agustin Septimo with one out. Luany Sanchez, the former Broncos, knocked in the White Wings first run with an RBI double to give Rio Grande a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second Jonathan Cisneros led off the inning with a ground ball single through the right side of the infield. Nick Mahin then hit a ball deep down the left field line that appeared to hook about 10 feet foul. Home plate umpire Travis Hargroder ruled it a home run and the Broncos took a 2-1 lead.

Rio Grande Valley tied the game in the top of the fifth on a lead off double by Welinson Baez. With one out after a Roberto Rodriguez strike out Javis Diaz hit an RBI double that tied the game at 2-2.

The Broncos sent just four men to the plate in the bottom of the fifth against Luis Montano and did not score.

In the top of the sixth the White Wings took the lead for good against the Broncos. With two down Arlon Quiroz worked a walk against Peralta. Quiroz then stole second base and came home on the Eric Gonzalez RBI single to give Rio Grande a 3-2 lead. Welinson Baez brought home the fourth White Wing run with an RBI single but was then thrown out trying to stretch the single to a double.

The Broncos stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, wasting their best chance to tie the game. Laredo sent only four men to plate in the ninth and fell to the White Wings in game one of the double header 4-2.

Juan Peralta pitched a complete seven-inning contest but received a loss for his efforts.
