Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings hit four home runs to beat the San Angelo Colts 12-2 on Friday at Harlingen Field.
The WhiteWings (27-21) took three out of four games from the Colts (29-17) to pull within three games of first place.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Leivi Ventura hit a three-run home run, his 11th of the season, and Wilmer Pino hit a two-run shot, his fifth of the year, to give the WhiteWings a 5-1 lead against Andy Wells (2-2).
Francisco Santana hit a two-run home run, his seventh of the season, in the bottom of the second to make it 7-1.
With one out in the sixth, Santana and Antonio DeJesus singled, setting up an RBI-double by David Peralta. A wild pitch scored DeJesus, and after Ventura walked against Vic Ferrante, birthday-boy Gerardo Avila hit his seventh home run of the season to make it 12-1.
Cory Patton launched his 11th home run of the season off the top of the centerfield wall to give the Colts a 1-0 lead against Eric Blackwell (4-2) in the top of the first.
That was it against Blackwell, who struck out 10 while scattering three hits and one walk in seven innings.
