Edmonton Capitals News Release

Calgary, AB - The Edmonton Capitals faced off against the provincial rival Calgary Vipers one more time at Foothills Stadium for the final game of their brief three-game series on Thursday night. The Caps were looking to snap their two-game losing skid and close out their 12-game road trip with a win, and they answered the call in a big way, defeating the Vipers 13-4.

The Caps' batters showcased their power on Thursday as both centre fielder Steve Brown and shortstop Enrique Cruz added to their home run totals with one longball each. Right fielder Tom Collaro and third baseman Carlos Duncan also helped the offensive charge with two RBI, while pinch-hitting pitcher Mike Hrynio chipped in with a three-run double to add to the onslaught. First baseman Brent Metheny led Edmonton with four hits to bump his impressive batting average up to .371.

Alexander Francisco started on the mound for the Caps and had a shortened one-inning performance that saw him give up two runs before he was relieved by Jorge Vasquez, who ended up earning the victory by only allowing one run and tallying four strikeouts in four innings pitched. Chad Blackwell and Brandon Villafuerte also came on to pitch for the Caps and only surrendered one run between them. Edmonton's hurlers struck out 11 Vipers on the night.

With Thursday's impressive win, the Caps concluded a three-game series against the Vipers and a lengthy 12-game road trip that saw them post an even 6-6 record.
