Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen, TX - The Harlingen WhiteWings (7-11) got shutout for the first time this season, as Amarillo Dillas (11-6) lefthander Ronald Lowe (1-0) scattered eight hits, five of which didn't leave the infield, while striking out four and walking one in seven and two-thirds innings to win 5-0 tonight at Harlingen Field.

The Dillas got on the board in the second against Dan Valentin (2-1). With one out, Justin Wenger singled, Stephen Douglas reached on an error and Joel Gonzalez hit an infield single to load the bases. Josh Ashton was hit by a pitch to force in a run. One out later, Keith Brachold hit a two-run ground-rule double to make it 3-0.

That would be all the scoring the starters would allow, as Valentin and Ronald Lowe (1-0) engaged in a pitching duel. Valentin went five and one-third innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The Dillas got some insurance runs against Angel Cordero in the eighth when Douglas led off with a unt single and Gonzales followed with a walk. Ashton sacrificed the runners into scoring position and Jonathan Reynoso hit a two-run double to make it 5-0.

That was the only blemish against Cordero, who went two innings in his season debut, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks while striking out five.

The WhiteWings head to Laredo for the first of three with the Broncos tomorrow night at 7:35. Right-hander Kenny Evoniuk (1-0) will face left-hander Sean Donlin (0-0).
