San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - For the second time in four days, San Angelo was unable to hold onto a ninth inning lead, as Alexandria scored six runs in the final frame off closer Brian Daly to turn a 9-6 deficit into a 12-9 lead. San Angelo did not go quietly though, as Jason Crosland hit a two-run homer to make it a one-run game. But the Colts could not complete the comeback as John Anderson grounded out to first with the bases loaded to end it, and they dropped the rubber match to the Aces 12-11. A crowd of 3,356, the best on the quick three-game homestand, was in attendance on Click it or Ticket Night.

Selwyn Langaigne led off the ninth with a single for Alexandria (9-9). Then Patrick O'Sullivan cranked a two-run shot, his third off Daly (0-3) this season. The Aces got right back to work as Palmer Karr walked, and Luis Guance, Madison Edwards, and Bryan Sabatella all singled to give Alexandria the lead and chase the San Angelo closer from the game. Justin Robinson came on and allowed a two-run single to Homy Ovalles to give Alexandria some insurance.

Brian Henschel had his second straight solid start for the Colts, going six and a third innings, allowing five runs on 12 hits while striking out one. The righty allowed a rare walk to start the game, but then immediately picked off Albert Gonzalez. After allowing another walk to Homy Ovalles, Henschel came back to get Selwyn Langainge to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

San Angelo got to Alexandria starter Angel Guzman in the second. With two outs and a runner on, Aaron Cone doubled to score Andres Rodriguez. Two batters later, Wyn Diggs tripled home a pair. The Colts got three more in the third as Cone hit a bases-clearing three-run double to cap a rally that started with two outs and no one on. Cone was 4-for-5 with three doubles and four RBIs overall.

Ryan Mulle relieved Henschel and pitched an inning and two thirds, allowing just an unearned run. Jeremy Cameron allowed a three-spot in three innings of relief for the Aces, while Derek Abriola (1-1) pitched a scoreless eighth to pick up the win.

Notes: Anderson had had at least a hit in every home game this season until his 0-for-6 today...the bottom three in the Colts' order, Cone, Jose Torres and Diggs were nine-for-14 with six RBIs...Amarillo had a six-spot in the ninth inning to beat the Colts in Daly's first blown save of the season on Thursday night.

The Colts begin a six-game road trip on Monday with series against the Coyotes and WhiteWings. The Colts then return to Foster Field on Sunday, June 8 to begin a nine-game homestand. The game that day, which begins at 5:05 p.m., will feature Weiner Dog Races, sponsored by Yuppie Puppy.
