Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Edinburg Coyotes defeated the Laredo Broncos 9-5 on the night John Odom got his first start of the season. Odom, who was traded for 10 maple bats, only lasted two innings against the Coyotes. The game went into extra innings after the Broncos came back from a three run deficit in the bottom of the ninth. But the Coyotes sealed the deal when they brought in four runs in the top of the 10th inning to take Game 2 of the three-game series against the Broncos Saturday night at Veterans Field.
John Maschino got his second start of the season as he went five innings allowing only four hits with no runs for a no decision.
Julio Castro got the win after blowing the save in the bottom of the ninth. He pitched a scoreless tenth inning to earn his first win of the season. Rusty Jones gets his second loss on the year.
Logan Wood led off the second inning with a double and later moved over to third on a ground out by Mayobanex Santana. After a two out walk by Amado German, Vince Moore called for a double steal. Logan Wood scored from third on an awkward slide to avoid the tag at the plate to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead.
Wood started another offensive rally in the fourth inning with a one-out single. Then he moved to second on a two out walk by Eric Gonzalez. With runners on first and second, German got his second hit of the year to score Wood to push the lead for the Coyotes to 2-0. Jason Arrowood walked to load the bases and Nick Aranda was hit by a pitch to score a run to push the lead to 3-0.
In the fifth inning, Daryl Jones got aboard with a one out walk. Jones then moved to third after an error by Jose Salas. Wood drove in Jones with a sacrifice fly to put the score at 4-0. The Broncos finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning when Matt Lawman walked on four pitches then came around to score on an RBI double by Anthony Bennet.
The Broncos came back in the ninth inning with four runs on four hits. Dwayne White hit a three-run homer to tie the game at 5-5.
The Coyotes answered in the top of the next inning with four runs on three hits. Santana reached on an error and Gonzalez brought him in with an RBI double in the tenth inning. Arrowood then cleared the bases with a two run shot to give the Coyotes an 8-5 lead. The Coyotes added another run to make the score 9-5 on an RBI single by Angelo Fermin that scored Aranda from second base.
The Coyotes and Broncos finish their three-game series Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. at Veterans Field. The Coyotes head home for a three-game series against San Angelo which starts on Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
