Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN - The San Angelo Colts beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 2-1 in seven innings in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Thursday at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings (15-11) managed just three base runners against Logan Williamson (4-0) through the first five and two-thirds innings. With two outs in the sixth, however, Antonio DeJesus tripled and Leivi Ventura hit an RBI-single to knock out Williamson, who struck out seven.

Francisco Cruceta recorded the final four outs for his third save.

The Colts (14-12) struck against Eric Blackwell (2-2) in the top of the second. Daryl Jones led off with a single, moved to third on a one-out double by Trey Carter and scored on a groundout by Danny Hernandez to make it 1-0.

The Colts put runners at first and second with two outs in the fifth to set-up an RBI-single by Cory Patton to make it 2-0.

That was it against Blackwell, who struck out six while allowing four hits and four walks in six innings.

The WhiteWings and Colts play game two of this doubleheader in approximately 30 minutes. Right-hander Luis Chirinos (2-0, 0.00) is expected to face right-hander Chandler Barnard (3-1, 4.50).
