Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN - The San Angelo Colts scored two runs in the top of the seventh to beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 3-1 in seven innings in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Thursday at Harlingen Field.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the top of the seventh, Julio Santana (0-2) made his first appearance since returning to the WhiteWings (15-12). He hit Davis Page with a pitch, and then, one out later, Mark Ramos and Ronnie Gaines hit back-to-back singles to score Page. One batter later, Daryl Jones hit an RBI-single to make it 3-1.

Chace Vacek pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh for his first save.

The Colts (15-12) scored the first earned run in 20 innings against Luis Chirinos this season in the third without the benefit of a hit. Mark Ramos led off with a four-pitch walk. After Gaines walked, Cory Patton and Jones grounded into back-to-back fielder's choices to get Ramos home, making it 1-0.

That was it against Chirinos, who struck out nine while allowing two hits and four walks in six innings.

Chandler Barnard (4-1) retired the first eight WhiteWings and 13 of the first 14 he faced. With one out in the fifth, however, Gerardo Avila and Wilmer Pino hit back-to-back doubles to tie the game.

Barnard struck out six while allowing five hits in six innings.

The series shifts to Foster Field in San Angelo as the WhiteWings and Colts play the first of four on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Andy Wells (2-1, 4.56) is expected to face right-hander Alex Casillas (1-0, 0.00).
