Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today that a donation of four non-perishable food items at any WhiteWings game at Harlingen Field in July can be redeemed for one general admission ticket to that night's game. All food items will benefit Loaves and Fishes, the local food bank and shelter in Harlingen, as they team up with the WhiteWings to help strikeout hunger.

The WhiteWings have eight games remaining in July, starting tonight, tomorrow and Thursday at 7:05 p.m. against the Amarillo Dillas Gates open at 6:05.

The WhiteWings return home from July 18-through-21 against the San Angelo Colts, with the first three games starting at 7:05 p.m. and the final game starting at 11:05 a.m.

The final WhiteWings game at Harlingen Field in July is on July 31 at 7:05 p.m. against the Dillas.

Loaves and Fishes of the Rio Grande Valley is a non-profit agency that offers the homeless and needy a place to go to restart their lives in a caring and supportive environment. Loaves and Fishes has served Upper Cameron and Willacy Counties since 1991.

The mission of Loaves & Fishes of the Rio Grande Valley, Inc. is to improve the community we live in by restoring broken lives. Loaves and Fishes does this by: feeding the hungry; sheltering the homeless; training and placing into jobs those that desire to rejoin the community as productive members; and, by providing monetary and non- monetary aid to those experiencing a life altering event that takes away their ability to afford the necessities of life.

"With donations falling and the need for help rising in this tough economy, it is our job as active members of the community to help those who are less fortunate than us," WhiteWings General Manager Cory Dirksen said.

Loaves and Fishes is located at 514 S E St. They can be reached at (956) 423-1014.

The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas. In its fourth season, the United League is in the midst of a great summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Coastal Bend, Laredo, Harlingen and San Angelo.
