Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen - Taylor Allen (2-2) allowed one run on eight hits and two walks while striking out five in seven innings to lead the Amarillo Dillas past the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 4-1 tonight at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings (11-15) scored first for the second-straight game. With two outs, Jonathan Poterson walked and Brian Nichols hit an RBI-double against Allen to make it 1-0.

Reymond Cruz (3-2) started the game with three no-hit innings against the Dillas (14-12). Terrance McClain led off the fourth with a double and scored on a one-out double by Andrew Wong to tie the game.

The WhiteWings had a chance to break it open in the fourth as singles by Nichols, Welinson Baez and Danny Etkin loaded the bases with two outs, but Casey Allen flied out to deep right field to end the inning.

With two outs in the fifth, Rafael Ozuna drew a seven-pitch walk before Carlos Figueroa, McClain and Lockwood hit consecutive singles to make it 3-1 Dillas.

That was it against Cruz, who lasted 6.1 innings, scattering six hits and four walks while striking out five.

Left-handed reliever Eric Domangue made his WhiteWings debut with one on and out in the seventh and proceeded to load the bases before getting Lockwood to ground into an inning-ending double play.

The Dillas added an insurance run in the ninth. Keanon Simon led off by getting hit by a pitch and Ozuna followed with an RBI-double.

Robert Wooley pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his third save.

The WhiteWings and Dillas play game three of this four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 at Harlingen Field. Right-hander Sendy Vasquez (1-2) is expected to face left-hander Dustin Taylor (2-2).
