Harris Pitches Complete Game, Broncos Win 7-1

San Angelo, Texas---Laredo Broncos starter Ryan Harris threw his first complete game of the season holding the San Angelo Colts (17-9) to just six hits and one run as the Laredo Broncos (9-17) won the contest 7-1. 4,200 fans turned out to Foster Field for WTU recession busting night.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning. With one out in the frame, Miguel Ortiz put the Broncs on the board with a solo homerun that just remained fair down the left field line. Laredo then followed with three straight singles. The third of those, by David Cardona, scored Mario Mendez as the Broncos took a two run lead. Anthony Bennett then delivered a double down the right field line scoring Luany Sanchez climbing to a 3-0 contest. Then the Colts second baseman Jason Diaz committed a fielding error from an OJ Garza groundball as Cardona scored, Broncs led by four. Still in the third, Ryan Flynn singled in Bennett and the Colts found themselves trailing 5-0.

San Angelo would score their first run in the bottom half of the third. Butch Ballez led the inning off with a double, a ground ball to second base from Bradley Goldsmith moved him to third. With two outs in the inning, an infield single from Ronnie Gaines put the Colts on the board as they trailed the Broncs 5-1. However that would be the final run San Angelo would plate.

Ryan Harris (2-3) worked for his first complete game of the year as he earned the win scattering six hits, allowing just one earned run and striking out six. Brian Henschel (4-1) surrendered his first loss of the season managing seven innings while giving up 12 hits and three earned runs. The Colts defense sputtered committing four errors leading to four unearned runs.

San Angelo 's offense collected six hits while managing a run. Ronnie Gaines had the only RBI, also adding a single. Butch Ballez was the only Colt recording multiple hits as San Angelo 's short stop had two singles and a run scored.

San Angelo and Laredo will continue their series at Foster Field on Wednesday for Sure Win Wednesday sponsored by Sherwin Williams. If the Colts do not win tomorrow night, each fan will receive a free ticket to next Wednesdays home game when San Angelo will face Coastal Bend. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
