Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today they have re-acquired catcher Danny Etkin from the San Angelo Colts for a player to be named later while to signing left- handed pitcher Eric Domangue and designated hitter Rafael Zorrilla.

To make room on the roster, the WhiteWings released infielder- outfielder Daisuke Yoshida and catcher Ryan Kottke while deactivating outfielder Rico Santana (groin injury) and left-handed pitcher Jorge Lugo (shoulder injury).

Etkin started the season with the WhiteWings, hitting .244 (10-41) with one home runs and four RBI for being traded to the San Angelo Colts on June 28 for Brian Nichols. Etkin played in four games for the Colts, picking up a hit in each contest while going 4-17 (.235) with one run scored.

A native of Tomball, Domangue was drafted by the New York Mets in the 16th round of the 2005 draft. He pitched in the Mets system for two seasons before moving onto Coastal Bend (American Association) in 2007. Domangue started this season in that same league with the Fort Worth Cats, going 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA. In five relief appearances, he allowed four runs on four hits and walks while striking out two in 4.2 innings. He last pitched on June 3.

Zorrilla started as the designated hitter last night, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Yoshida was 0-for-5 with three strikeouts and one error. He started at shortstop on Saturday and Sunday, but had to be pulled after one inning on Sunday after making three misplays in the field.

Kottke hit .148 (4-27) with 13 strikeouts in 13 games.

Santana suffered his injury after hitting a single in the bottom of the seventh inning on June 28. He hit a single in a pinch-hitting appearance on Friday, but has otherwise been unavailable. He was in the original starting lineup yesterday, but had to be scratched.

Lugo had to be pulled during the first inning of his start in Edinburg on Sunday after giving up five runs on two hits and three walks. The Edinburg Baseball Stadium radar gun was clocking his velocity in the 70s.

It is currently unclear how long Santana and Lugo will be out.

The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas. In its fourth season, the United League is in the midst of a great summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Coastal Bend, Laredo, Harlingen and San Angelo.
