Flores Leads Roadrunners to Victory

ROBSTOWN, TEXAS ---- Pedro Flores allowed two runs and seven hits in seven innings to lead the Edinburg Roadrunners past the Coastal Bend Thunder 7-2 Tuesday night at Fairgrounds Field.

Edinburg (13-13) jumped out to an early lead against former Edinburg Coyotes pitcher Miliade Venas after scoring a run in the first inning. The Roadrunners then scored two more in the second on RBI singles by Nick Aranda and Robert Matlock that made the score 3-0.

The Thunder (14-12) scored against Flores (1-2) in the second inning after an RBI double by Alfred Joseph and an RBI single by Kevin Butler that cut the Roadrunners' lead to 3-2.

Edinburg scored a run in the top of the fourth on a throwing error that allowed Cameron McGuire to score for a 4-2 Edinburg lead, and in the top of the sixth, an RBI single by Eric Gonzalez made it 5-2 game.

A two-run double in the top of the ninth inning by Bryon Smith extended the Roadrunners lead to 7-2.

Brian Martin and Kelly Casares pitched a scoreless inning each in relief for Flores, who picked up his first win of the season.

Venas (1-2) pitched six innings, scattering nine hits and allowing five runs for his second loss of the season.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will play the third game of this four-game series on Wednesday night at Fairgrounds Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Eric Montoya (2-0) is expected to pitch for the Roadrunners.
