
Shaffer Delivers Walk Off Triple Giving Colts Tenth Inning Win

San Angelo, Texas--- The San Angelo Colts (17-8) began their 12 game home stand in dramatic fashion. Hank Lanto scored all the way from first base in the bottom of the tenth inning off of a Blake Shaffer triple handing San Angelo their first extra inning win of the year defeating the Laredo Broncos (8-17) 8-7.
San Angelo jumped out early in the bottom half of the first. Broncos starter Tano Tijerina struggled with control as he walked Jason Diaz, hit Jason Landreth with a pitch, then walked Hunter Jobes to load the bases. Diaz then scored on a wild pitch moving runners to second and third. Josh Collazo delivered a single to right field scoring both base runners as the Colts led 3-0. Hank Lanto followed with a walk. Blake Shaffer singled, driving in Collazo. Colts took a four run lead. After another wild pitch and a Butch Ballez single, San Angelo had a six run advantage.
Colts starter Ezequiel Astacio began the game by striking out the side in the top half of the first. However he would find trouble in the top of the fourth. As the Colts led 7-3, the defense stumbled allowing two errors, and the Broncos singled twice scoring three runs as San Angelo 's lead was cut to a run.
The game would stay that way until the bottom of the ninth. Chase Vacek came into to close out the ballgame. Pinch hitter Robert Moron doubled, and Ryan Flynn followed with a ground ball to the right side putting a runner at third with less than two outs. A sacrifice fly by Luis Ugueto tied the game at seven. A scoreless bottom half for the Colts would send this game into overtime.
In the bottom of the tenth, Hank Lanto singled to right field as the newcomer Blake Shaffer stepped to the plate. Shaffer delivered a fastball into right centerfield, as it trickled to the wall Lanto scored all the way from first giving the Colts their first extra inning win of the year.
The winning pitcher in tonight's contest would go to Chase Vacek (1-0). The Colts closer pitched two innings allowing one earned run while striking out one. The losing pitcher was Tristan Crawford (2-2). Ezequiel Astacio (3-0) earned a no decision lasting six innings striking out eight with only two earned runs.. Jacob Ramos and Jameson Maj combined for a perfect seventh and eight inning of work.
The Colts offense amassed eight runs collecting ten hits. The two new additions contributed in the Colts lineup. Third baseman, Blake Shaffers RBI triple ended the ballgame, including a single and three RBI's. First Baseman, Josh Collazo had two singles adding two RBI's and a run scored. Jason Diaz had a single and a double with a run scored.
San Angelo and Laredo will continue their series at Foster Field on Tuesday for WTU Recession Busting night. All fans will get in free of charge, thanks to WTU Retail Energy.
