HARLINGEN - Using a big seven-run second inning, the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings flew by the McAllen Thunder 10-4.

The WhiteWings (51-34) trailed early 3-0, but the WhiteWings put eight unanswered runs on the board, including seven in the bottom of the second inning, as they took a lead they never surrendered.

Gabriel Ortiz started the big second inning with a three-run home run to give his team a 4-3 lead. One batter later, Alexis Oliveras doubled to get into scoring position. Welington Dotel tripled to score Oliveras, giving the 'Wings a 5-3 advantage. A Wilmer Pino RBI single made the score 6-3 as an error and then wild pitch allowed two more runs to cross the plate, giving the WhiteWings a comfortable 8-3 lead.

The WhiteWings were in cruise control from there, giving up just one more run to the McAllen Thunder.

The WhiteWings play game two of their final four-game homestand of the regular season tomorrow night at 7:05 PM at Harlingen Field.

Eddie Dennis Jr. (3-1, 7.86 ERA) is expected to take the mound for the WhiteWings.
