Allowing 11 consecutive runs the Calgary Vipers (52-30) were defeated 11-4 by the Edmonton Capitals (53-31) before fans at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta. The Vipers opened up the scoring in the first inning but preceded to give up 11 runs over the next five innings as Edmonton plated two in the second, two in the third, four in the fifth, and three in the sixth. Dallas Buck (5-0) took the win after allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings while Mike Burns (7-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing eight runs in five frames. With the loss the Vipers still hold onto first place in the North Division by winning percentage points while needing to win two of their last four games to claim the pennant.

Calgary opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when with two outs Chad Ehrnsberger worked a seven pitch at-bat for single, C.J. Ziegler worked a six pitch at-bat for a walk, and Lino Garcia drove in a run with a base hit for a 1-0 lead.

Edmonton answered in the second frame as Brent Metheny singled and Carlos Duncan hit a home run for a 2-1 advantage.

The Capitals added to their lead in the third when Jamie McGraw singled, Matt Rogelstad doubled for a run batted in while advancing to third base on a throw to the plate, and Enrique Cruz collected a sacrifice fly for a 4-1 lead.

In the fifth inning Edmonton opened the game up as Rogelstad followed by Cruz singled, J.D. Closser collected a sacrifice fly, Lou Santangelo singled in a run, Metheny walked, Duncan singled to load the bases, and Rex Rundgren drove in two with a base hit for a 8-1 advantage.

The Capitals continued the onslaught in the sixth frame when McGraw tripled, Cruz followed by Closser both doubled for a RBI each, and Santangelo knocked in one with a base hit for a 11-1 lead.

The Vipers got a run back in the seventh as Drew Miller doubled and Bryan Burke collected a RBI triple for a 11-2 score.

Calgary concluded the scoring at 11-4 in the ninth when Miller singled, Louie Templeton walked, and with two outs Wilver Perez knocked in both runs to extend his on-base streak to 54 games.

The Vipers continue this series in Edmonton to finish off the 2011 regular season on Friday August 26th at 7:00.

The 2011 North American League playoffs will start with Game 1 of the North Division Championship best of seven series in Edmonton at Telus Field against the Capitals on Tuesday August 30th at 7:00. Game 2 of the N.D.C.S. will also be in Edmonton on Wednesday August 31st at 7:00.

The series shifts to Calgary and Foothills Stadium on Thursday September 1st at 6:30 for Game 3 and on Friday September 2nd at 6:30 for Game 4. If necessary Game 5 will also be played in Calgary on Saturday September 3rd at 2:30.

If a Game 6 is necessary it will be back in Edmonton on Sunday September 4th at 2:00.

If a Game 7 is necessary it will take place on Tuesday September 6th at whichever team finishes the regular season in first place.
